Behringer 1036 Sample & Hold / Random Voltage
The Behringer 1036 is an authentic Eurorack recreation of the classic ARP 2500 series 1036 module, a versatile utility that combines a Sample and Hold (S&H) circuit with random voltage generation. This module is a cornerstone for creating the "staircase" voltage patterns famously associated with early electronic music, as well as generating random modulations to bring life and unpredictability to your patches. Whether you want to create classic arpeggio-like sequences or add subtle, organic movement to your filters and oscillators, the 1036 is an essential creative tool.
The module features two independent Sample and Hold circuits. Each circuit takes a signal input and a clock/trigger input; when triggered, it "samples" the voltage of the input signal and holds that voltage at its output until the next trigger arrives. This is commonly used with a noise source to create random stepped voltages. The 1036 conveniently includes an internal clock with adjustable rate and pulse width, as well as two distinct random voltage generators (one utilizing a Zener diode and the other a transistor junction) to serve as internal sample sources, simplifying the creation of random patterns without needing external modules.
